Matrimony

True love between a man and a woman leads to marriage.  Marriage brings mutual comfort and a family.  Children are the fruit and bond of a marriage.  The family provides a framework for each family member to grow as a person in love and security.

Marriage preparation is carried out in the parish as outlined in the ‘’Guidelines for the Sacrament of Matrimony’’ of the Archdiocese.  The priest has a key role in the preparation of a couple for marriage.  He helps lay the foundation of a couple’s happiness as well a providing preparation for the realities of married, according to the Law of the Church.  Before any booking is finalised with any church or chapel, the priest who is going to celebrate the marriage must interview the couple personally.

It is a requirement that early notification of marriage be given to the priest.  The Archdiocese needs a three month notification of marriage.  It is recommended however, that all paperwork and marriage preparation be completed at least six months prior to the wedding.

The Catholic Marriage Education Service strongly recommend that you attend a Marriage Preparation Course before the wedding.  These are held at the Cathedral Parish Centre.  Details are available from the Parish Priest.

The Priest will guide you through the selection of readings, prayers and blessings from the Rite of Marriage and also liturgical music for the occasion.

To book our church for a wedding please phone the parish office to check the availability of the church.  A form “Application to book Good Shepherd Church for a Wedding Ceremony’’ must be completed and payment of the prescribed fee of $100 be made to secure the booking.

Later, a form ‘’Fees for a Wedding Ceremony’’ must be completed and payment of $450 be made – that is $300 for use of the church and $150 for the officiating priest or deacon.

These enquiries are made in conjunction with having made arrangements with the parish priest.

No booking can be accepted unless the priest or deacon agrees to be available on the date.
